501 (c) 3 Organization
The Troy Historical Society (TTHS) was established in 1965 by a cadre of historic minded individuals whose goal was to preserve the history of Troy and the local Miami county area.
The Troy Historical Society houses its collection of archives that includes books, maps, photos, brochures, microfilm and CDs at the Troy Local History Library, a branch location of the Troy Miami County Public Library located at 100 West Main St. in Troy. Currently the historical society provides volunteers for staffing the Troy Local History Library.
We provide free historic speakers programs and educational displays though out the county year round.
We have provided historic guides for Troy Main Street events in the downtown, provided the text and documentation for the most recent downtown walking tour map, published by Troy Main Street and provided historical support from 2002-2003 on Troy's Bicentennial Committee.
The organization provides support to the following non-profit boards; The Troy Hayner Cultural Center, Museum of Troy History, The Overfield Tavern Museum, and the WACO Museum.
In 2002 we initiated a partnership with The Computer Heritage Association which started a website that features information on Troy - Miami County history and genealogy. We are now the sponsor of the website.
We publish an informative quarterly newsletter that is distributed within the community which informs the community of upcoming events and special projects of all the local museums.
We have recently created a Community Historical Educational Project Plan to aid in the educating of the Troy Community to the importance of Historic Preservation and the great opportunities that such respect gain us for future generation.
